How to Show the Grace of God

How do we show the Grace of God to each other in our everyday lives? Scripture instructs God’s people to love one another and illustrates what this looks like. Moreover, we are commanded to love one another,

We are commanded to “Love One Another

  • You shall not take vengeance, nor bear any grudge against the children of your people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the Lord“…Lev 19:18
  • A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another”… Jn 13:34
  • By this, all will know that you are My disciples if you have love for one another.”…Jn 13.35
  • This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you”… Jn 15:12
  • These things I command you, that ye love one another”… Jn 15:17

Showing the Grace of God Through Love

Our Creator does not ask us to do anything that He Himself has not displayed first as an example for us to follow.

Therefore, how do we show the grace of God by love for one another? What about those who are not so ‘loveable’? Perhaps the real question to ask for the answer you seek requires a different perspective. If God can love us in all our messes…

  • For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved“…Jn 3:16-17
  • For the Father, Himself loves you, because you have loved Me, and have believed that I came forth from God“…Jn 16:27
  • But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us“…Rm 5:8
Hebrews 7:25
Hebrews 7:25

How can we refuse to share what we were so freely given? It is not always easy to love. Moreover, it can be hard work. I can guarantee that neither you nor I have always been seen as ‘loveable’. That’s where humility comes in.

Showing the Grace of God Through Humility

humility quote
Quote by C.S. Lewis

We love one another by being humble.

  • Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering;”…Col 3:12
  • And a servant of the Lord must not quarrel but be gentle to all, able to teach, patient, in humility correcting those who are in opposition, if God perhaps will grant them repentance, so that they may know the truth, and that they may come to their senses and escape the snare of the devil, having been taken captive by him to do his will“...2Tim 2:24-26

Our humility is displayed by:

  • Serving – “If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet“…Jn 13:14
    • For you, brethren, have been called to liberty; only do not use liberty as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another“…Gal 5:13
  • Being submissive – “Likewise you younger people, submit yourselves to your elders. Yes, all of you be submissive to one another and be clothed with“…1Pe 5:5
    • submitting to one another in the fear of God“…Eph 5:21
  • Being devoted – “Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself“…Phil 2:3
    • “Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honor giving preference to one another”…Rom 12:10
  • Confessing & Praying – “Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much“…Jas 5:16

Showing the Grace of God Through Unity

Unity with each other displays our love for one another. We are united as one body with Christ which is the Head. One body with different parts, ideas, likes, and dislikes. We may not agree on everything, However, we stand united under Christ as soldiers in the battle against Satan and his henchmen.

  • Having the same mind – “Be of the same mind toward one another. Do not set your mind on high things but associate with the humble. Do not be wise in your own opinion“…Rom 12:16

  • Be like-minded – “Be of the same mind toward one another. Do not set your mind on high things but associate with the humble. Do not be wise in your own opinion”Rom 12:16
    • Now may the God of patience and comfort grant you to be like-minded toward one another, according to Christ Jesus“…Rom 15:5

John the Apostle Reminds Us:

  • Beloved, let us [unselfishly] love and seek the best for one another, for love is from God; and everyone who loves [others] is born of God and knows God [through personal experience]1 Jn 4:7 (AMP)
  • Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another1 Jn 4:11
  • No one has seen God at any time. But if we love one another [with unselfish concern], God abides in us, and His love [the love that is His essence abides in us and] is completed and perfected in us1 Jn 4:12 (AMP)
  • For this is the message which you [believers] have heard from the beginning [of your relationship with Christ], that we should [unselfishly] love and seek the best for one another1 Jn 3:11 (AMP)

8 Things We Should Not Desire

When we are in unity with One Another will will no longer desire to:

  1. Devour each other – “But if you bite and devour one another, beware lest you be consumed by one another“…Gal 5:15
  2. Provoke/envy – “Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another“…Gal 5:26
  3. Speak evil –  “Do not speak evil of one another, brethren”…Jas 4:11
  4. Be separate – “Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is“…Heb 10:25
  5. Sue each other – “Now, therefore, it is already an utter failure for you that you go to law against one another. Why do you not rather accept wrong“…1Co 6:7
  6. Grumble – “Do not grumble against one another, brethren, lest you be condemned“…Jas 5:9
    • Jesus therefore answered and said to them, “Do not murmur among yourselves“…Jn 6:43
  7. Lie – “Do not lie to one another“…Col 3:9
  8. Judge/Be a stumbling block – “Let us not, therefore, judge one another any more: but judge this rather, that no man put a stumbling block or an occasion to fall in his brother’s way“…Rom 14:13

We Must Above All

  • Above all, have fervent and unfailing love for one another, because love covers a multitude of sins [it overlooks unkindness and unselfishly seeks the best for others]1Pe 4:8 (AMP)
  • Owe nothing to anyone except to love and seek the best for one another; for he who [unselfishly] loves his neighbor has fulfilled the [essence of the] law Ro 13:8 (AMP)

Love Is The Greatest Gift

Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal. And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing.

Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up;  does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

Love never fails.“…

1 Corinthians 13:1-8 NKJV

This is how we show the grace of God.
