D.o.g. = Depend On God

Well Hi! Meet Ginger, my “ 30 lb miniature dachshund”

One morning in my quiet time with God, as I sitting on the front porch with Ginger, God impressed on me that we treat our pets better than we treat Him! What? Really? We treat our pets better than we do You, Lord? OUCH! That got my attention! So the question I had to ask myself was; do I treat my pet better than I treat my Father, God?

So I started thinking about a few things that Ginger does.

Ginger loves me unconditionally. God loves me unconditionally.

Do I ignore Him if I don’t get my way? Do I love God unconditionally or only when I want something?

I have found that if I leave the house for only a couple of minutes to check the mail when I come back in, Ginger is excited to see me, you’d think I was gone for hours.

I realized that God is excited when we “come back home.” He is always watching for us. How much better would it be if we would never leave home?

Honestly, What About Me?

Being honest, I must reflect awhile to ask if I truly desire to be in His presence? Am I eagerly yearning to be with Him or am I in too much of a hurry to spend time with the One that gave His life for me?

When I am eating, Ginger sits with longing and anticipation of what I will share with her. She is persistent and will not leave until she is fed a bite or two.

Jesus is The “Bread of Life”, and longs to fill me with the nourishment only He can supply.

Do we have the same longing to sit at the feet of Jesus? Again, if I am being honest, do I give God only the leftover minutes I can squeeze in? Do I want “fast food” or a “home-cooked meal”?

Ginger loves to snuggle by me. She wants her belly rubbed, her back and ears scratched and a massage. She can be very persistent, (you would be also if your legs were only two inches long.)

It is the desire of Father God to have us snuggle like a child in His lap and hear His heartbeat.

Do we have the desire to listen to His heart?

Wow, my Abba (Daddy) God means so much to me, but sometimes “life” happens and if I want my relationship to grow stronger I need to be sure that my Abba is not being neglected.

What About You?

What about you? Do you treat your pet better than your Father God? If you don’t have pets, are there other things in your life that possibly stand in the way of your time with God? If we would take the time to lay our head next to His heart and listen, you would hear His heart proclaim with each beat:

  • I love you. You are mine.
  • I love you. You are so precious to me.
  • I love you. I will give you peace.
  • I love you. I will take care of you.
  • I love you. Do not pull away in fear.
  • I love you. I am in control.
  • I love you!

In conclusion, let us snuggle up to our Abba God as little children, resting in His Presence, knowing that God never lies. He loves us and will wrap His arms around us if we let Him. He is our awesome Protector, Savior and, King!
