A few weeks ago, Pastor Charles Hinckley shared in his on-line sermon a list of items that Jesus could have shared with the two men walking on the road to Emmaus. It was an awe-inspiring list that revealed Jesus throughout the Scriptures from Genesis to Revelation. I asked if he could send me the list and he was gracious enough to do so.
We are in a period of history unlike anything we could have imagined, especially for us in America. Moreover, as we draw ever closer to the seven years of tribulation and the return of Jesus, we need to do all we can to stay focused on and remind ourselves just Who it is that is in control.
Spoiler alert! It is not the Government, the rich elitists, the Freemasons, the shadow government, the Illuminati, the Pope, or Satan!
Every day, there is an update of what is occurring in the “coronavirus” world. From the President, Governors, Mayors, the talking heads, it’s all too much. It’s easy to become overwhelmed. So I wanted to share this list with you so you and I can be encouraged that in the midst of this madness we can find a quiet spot and allow the peace of God that passes understanding to speak to our hearts and remind us that it is He who is in control. We need not fear! (see Psalm 91)
The Walk to Emmaus

The same day that Jesus was resurrected, He came upon two men walking to Emmaus. They were talking with each other about all the recent events. In Luke 24:16 it states that Jesus kept the men from recognizing Him. Jesus then asks them what they are talking about and why they are so sad.
I can see the look they must have had on their faces when they replied, “Are You the only foreigner in Jerusalem who does not know what has happened there in these days?” To put it another way “what hole did you just climb out of”. They would soon find out. Jesus presses on by asking them “What things?”
Luke 24:19-24 recounts their response to His question.
However, in Luke 24:25-27 Jesus then responds: “O fools! And slow of heart to believe what the prophets have spoken! Was it not necessary for the Christ to suffer these things and to enter His glory?” And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, He explained to them the things concerning Himself in all the Scriptures.”(emphasis mine)
Based on the list Pastor Hinckley shared and a few other lists I found, I have reassembled my own list of what I believe Jesus could have taught them. I pray you are encouraged as you reflect on our Lord in each book from Genesis to Revelation.
Jesus in the Old Testament
The Tanakh is what the Jewish nation call our Old Testament. I always like to insert a little bit of teaching when I can so I will break out my list according to how the Tanakh is divided along with the Hebrew names of the books. In Hebrew, the books are often referred to by their prominent first word(s).
The Torah (תּוֹרָה, literally “teaching”), also known as the Pentateuch, or as the “Five Books of Moses”

As we look at who Jesus is from Genesis to Revelation, I’m sure you can tell that we are barely scratching the surface. He is so much more than we can imagine. It would be awesome to start with this list and continue to add to it just to see how many statements we can come up with. However, for now, we move to the New Testament.
Jesus in the New Testament
The Brit Chadasha / New Covenant (Testament)
Like the Tanakh, the Brit Chadasha, is a collection of writings all authored by devout Jews (with the possible exception of Luke/Acts). The Brit Chadasha is organized into 3 groups. As the Tanakh is grouped into the Torah, Neviim, and K’tuvim, the 5 books of the Gospels and Acts correspond to Torah, the 21 letters correspond to K’tuvim, and the book of Revelation corresponds to Neviim.

In Revelation (Hitgallut) I AM The:
- King of kings and Lord of lords.
- Alpha and the Omega.
- Beginning and the End.
- One who is coming again and the One who makes all things new.
- Lamb that was slain before the foundation of the world.
And there you have Jesus who was revealed in every book in the Bible from Genesis to Revelation. It’s no wonder that the men on the road to Emmaus in Luke 24:32 said to each other: “Did not our hearts burn within us while He talked to us on the way and while He opened the Scriptures to us?”
May our hearts burn within us for His Word and His presence!
